We're More Alike Than Different!

The National Down syndrome Congress group has put together a campaign called, "We're More Alike Than Different". The campaign shows individuals who may have a biased opinion about the abilities of people with Down syndrome what the lives of people with Down syndrome is really like and how they probably could be surprised in how much they can relate. It is easy for people to jump to conclusions about people just because they have a disability. Rather than taking an easy route, it is important to try and understand others who may be different from you! Through my work at The Florida State University Student Disability Resource Center, I get to work with clients who yes have disabilities, but they also have issues just like any other person. It is important when talking to people with a disability or even thinking about the lives of people with Down syndrome that we do not jump to conclusions about what we may think their life is like. I know watching the video below I could relate to many of the interests and activities that the four individuals discussed. I also think it's great that they are willing to participate in the campaign to help raise awareness about people with Down syndrome. You can tell from the video that these four individuals are passionate about their happiness in life and they feel strongly that Down syndrome does not affect the way they live their life it is just a part of who they are! Definitely watch this video and if you like it there are plenty others that you can search on YouTube for by just typing into the search engine "We're More Alike Than Different". Enjoy!
